Why are there so few women in tech?

What if the real reason women aren’t in tech is because they’re just not that good?

This was the premise for the video of Siân’s research into gender’s influence on code, and the participation of women in tech. The challenge for the concept was finding a way to present the granular detail of Siân’s research in an engaging, relatable way. It needed to appeal to a generalist audience, but hold up for programmers in the know.

I created a visual language for the methodology behind Siân’s research; filmed something tactile in-studio for the middle section on language; and chose to animate a lot of work “in-browser” to give the viewer the sense of being part of a fact-finding journey.
